For Total War: Rome 2, Creative Assembly is promising over 117 factions, with 500 unit types spread across the game’s 183 map regions. It’s an impressive number and represents the largest Total War title to date.
To that end, a redditor (romanius24) has compiled a list of units for the game that have been revealed thus far through screenshots, videos, and interviews with the game developers. It’s only a very small fraction of what the full game will have to offer.
The Roman legion is, for example, packed with legionnaires and javelin throwers, who make up a large portion of their armed forces. In contrast, the Ptolemaic Egyptian military prefers the use of cavalry, with heavy chariots, war elephants, and camels. By contrast, the Spartans are made up largely of spear infantry and have little in the way of cavalry.
