Jun 02, 2020 The Potter site (West Wight Potter:: potter-19) leads me to believe the unit cranks up and down. If it is not cranking down then it has swollen, rusted in place, perhaps the cable is cross wound, or the prevoius owner stuck a pin (maybe a screw driver) through the side of the trunk to hold the 'keel' up when on the trailer. I've had this boat since 2004. Towed home from Michigan, sailed her in KY, TN, a couple times in FL, and once in OH. Spent nights on board when it was hot and when it was cold.
Before I owned her, she used to sail lake Michigan. Apparently raced, evidenced by the extra control points for the jib and genoa.
This is of course an older boat but I've put a lot of work over the years into making her more comfortable, seaworthy and beautiful.
When I was single she was a perfect boat. When I met my wife, we sailed together, still the perfect boat. Now we have 4 children, and while we still CAN all sail on 'Courageous', its not exactly easy. We already have a larger boat, so I've decided to pass her on to someone with a smaller crew.

Upgrades/improvements
- Sunbrella covered cabin and cockpit cushions with dense 'seating' foam for a comfy tush and a good night's sleep.
- Bimini with cover that folds out of the way or completely covers the cockpit
- Sunbrella pockets that can be snapped on inside or outside to hold your sunglasses, drink, phone, etc.
- Keel can be raised, lowered, locked up or locked down from the cockpit with the cabin door closed.
- speaking of the door, its not wood, its plexiglass, and can be used as a little cockpit table with included leg. I also have a canvas cabin door cover so you can have privacy but still get some air.
- and speaking of air, there is an extra round access hatch at the bow for ventilation and for reaching in to get to gear.
- 2 access ports in the cockpit let you reach things under the seats.
- extra lines and sails stored in laundry baskets that fit neatly under cockpit seats. pull them out from inside the cabin.
- aluminum danforth anchor and heavier mushroom anchor, with chain and 120' nylon braid line included. Also included is a floor mat to soften the landing when you stow the anchor.
- Entire hull and deck cleaned and protected with poli-glow several years ago. Though it should be time to reapply, the poli-glow is lasting a long time due to indoor or covered storage of the boat the last few years.
- new tires in 2021. bearings checked often and kept greased before that.
- Trailer scraped and painted in 2008.
- Outboard motor mount on the trailer bow winch post so you don't have to carry it in your car (motor NOT included in sale)

I'm looking to buy before spring 2021, a 15-20 foot sailboat with a cabin. In order of preference: Potter 19, MacGregor 19, Potter 15. And possibly others I'm not aware of that are similar, with a draft of 1 foot or less with boards up . Things I'm looking for are: Hull, keel board, cabin, cockpit and trailer in decent to excellent condition. If it is just dirty - I can clean it. But I'm not looking for a project, I've already got too many! I don't need sails, rigging, mast, outboard motor, etc., but those things would be nice.
