The latest Xinput driver from Microsoft supports the Harmonix controllers out of the box (people who think I'm fake probably already had this). The Les Paul Guitar Hero Controller for the Xbox 360 was first sold in December, 2007 to pair with the new release of the game Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock. RedOctane (the device manufacturer) went out of business in 2010 so controllers to replace broken ones are hard to find. I have added a version of the driver without support for the Guitar Hero controller, to allow the Guitar Hero for Mac game to work (it attempts to access hardware directly, which doesn't work if a real driver has claimed the device). It works by automatically tweaking the driver's Info.plist, but a reboot will be required after any changes. It updates the driver to the modern standard and re-implements wireless controller support. If you find any regression in the driver, make sure to make an issue and specifically mention that you are using this version of the driver. Alpha 4 adds xbox one wireless controller support and should work with macOS Catalina 10.15.
Does this work for PS2 or PS3 controllers?No. This driver is for Xbox 360 compliant controllers. Seeing as I don't have either of those, I don't know their level of support.

You're not a hacker. I plugged mine in and it just worked.Not really a question, but: A) I had old drivers when I did this (Nov '07). The old drivers didn't support anything outside of Microsoft Xbox 360 controllers. The newer drivers have been rewritten to support third party contrllers.
How you connect your wired Guitar Hero controller to your PC depends on whether you have the PS2 or Xbox version of the controller. For the PS2 version, purchase a PS2 to USB adapter from an online retailer such as eBay or Amazon and attach this to your controller's cable.
